FourTrax - Camber
adjustment, Riding situation?
I have a 2000 400ex. I have a few questions concerning
the quad. My right front tire tends to stand up more
vertical than the left front. My left front leans in
at the top. Can I adjust this? If not, what part is
the problem? Another question, not related is, after
riding through water (couple feet deep) I usually notice
a pinging sound in the engine. I have asked the local
dealer about it, they didn't know what would cause it.
They did assure me that riding in water was perfectly
harmless... Any opinions???

FL250 1983 - Carb hose
problems
I have a 1983 Honda odyssey FL250. I would appreciate
any help I could get. On my ody's carb, there are three
hoses. I need to know what the name of the part, and
or what it is that connects these three hoses. Is it
just a standard T valve?... I can use any suggestions.
Thanks,

400EX 2000 - Oil leak
My 400ex (2000) has an oil leak on the left hand side
as you face the front. I know where it is leaking but
havve trouble explaining it. The bolt takes a 6mm allen
and there is another right next to it. I think they
are located on the top of the head and hold the rocker
arms in. They have a brass or cooper washer. The leak
is just weeping and started suddenly after riding it
for all year. If anyone knows what I'm taking about
or wants to help I would appreciate the help. Also please
don't worry about asking me to be more specific. I would
also like to know if any one has an easy explanation
on how to adjust the valves on the 400ex. My biggest
problem is how tight they should be on the feeler gauge.
I have had people tell me to adjust untill the gauge
wont move and then back off the screw. If anyone can
help my boys (8&4) need it.

TRX300FW 1999
- Oil issues
I wanted to thank you for the informative website. I
have a 1999 Honda TRX300FW ATV. I have been using the
Honda Motorcycle oil due to the rumors that using automotive
oils would cause clutch slippage. I use Mobil 1 synthetic
10W30 in my passenger vehicle. Thanks to you I will
now start using Mobil 1 (non-30 weight) in my ATV. I
usually change oil twice during the year using 20W50
oil for the summer months (I live in Alabama) and 10W40
for the rest of the year. I would rather use 15W40 during
the cooler months unless you believe this to be unwise.
I noticed that this weight was not on your recommended
list.

400EX 2000 - Throttle Adjustment
(thnx to Gabe(gellett@spam.net) on atv newsgroup)
- The
400EX has an adjustment for the throttle cable, I have
found that the Y2K's are adjusted all the way in from
the factory. This only allows for about 60-70% throttle
opening.
-
The easiest way to check to see if yours is this way
is to pull the rubber boot back that co90vers the cable's
entrance into the thumb throttle control.
- If it is adjusted in all the way (and it probably
is), pull the fenders off, separate the boot from the
air cleaner to the carb. Look into the carb as you apply
full throttle. The slide should COMPLETELY disappear.
Adjust the cable until it does so. Make sure the slide
can return all the way to the idle postition.
- Reassemble. Start it, let it idle, turn the handlebars
to make sure the idle does not raise. You are done.
Wick the throttle in neutral, it will sound much, much
meaner. Prepare for much more acceleration and throttle
response.

400EX 2000 - Oil Selection and Change
(thnx again Gabe(gellett@spam.net). This
guy knows everything about 400EXs)
-Question: I have a 400EX Honda with about
6 hours on it. It smokes alittle bit sometime between
shifts and after downshifting. Is this normal till it
is fully broke in? I plan on changing the oil/oil filter
after a couple more tanks of gas. -Thanks Nathan
-Answer: Your 400 is trying to tell you that
your oil is either broken down or not a heavy enough
weight. I have found that the EX is particular about
oil (this goes somewhat for an XR400 as well,m although
they are a bit easier on oil). I run Mobil 15w50 Synthetic,
and don't smoke anymore. Have a friend who runs Synthetic
10w40, his bike was smoking severely on decelaration.
We thought it was just the way his bike has been treated.l
Recently we went for a ride and did a quick 20w50 oil
change. The bike stopped smoking immediately. We will
switch this bike back to a heavier synthetic on the
next oil change.
Past
experiences and tests:
-10w40 Conventional will smoke rather quickly
after being changed, mainly on deceleration/between
shifts. When drained, is obviously worn out.
-10w40 Klotz Synthetic works ok for a while,
but will break down and begin to smoke like conventional
10w40.
-20w50 Castrol Conventional will work for 4 or
maybe a few more tanks of gas before breaking down and
beginning to smoke (depending on how it's ridden).
-15w50 Mobil Synthetic I have been running since
mid April with no noticed smoke or oil bu;rn smell.
The oil is beginnning to get some color to it, I will
probably change it soon. -It will make you a believer...
